Papaya Seed Dressing

papaya seeds

The seeds of 1 large female papaya. You know it’s a male papaya if it’s loaded with seeds or if it has no seeds at all. Female fruit has fewer seeds and taste sweeter

Here is a great way to use up those papaya seeds you might have just tossed out with the compost. This is more than just resourceful – it has an added bonus for your digestion because the seeds of the papaya fruit contain an enzyme called ‘pepain’. Originally pepain was taken from unripe fruit and used as a meat tenderizer because it would help to render a tough piece of meat tender. Pepain helps to break down cell structures which is why taking an enzyme after a big meal helps to digest food more efficiently – especially a tough combination of food groups or a large meal.

Enjoy this simple dressing, marinade or sauce for dipping. Very versatile. Very resourceful. Here are your ingredients:

  • 1 cup olive or grapeseed oil
  • 1/3 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 -1/3 cup papaya seeds
  • 1/2 cup chopped white onion
  • 1 Tbsp local honey
  • 2 tsp prepared mustard
  • sea salt

Blend with an immersion hand blender or vitamix
