As if we need to be reminded to eat more ginger and turmeric. They’re a perfect marriage of pungency, spice and astringency.
Great health is so much about our daily lives and how we live it. But that’s not to say we don’t run ourselves thin or experience high levels of stress from time to time. Our immunity is often time dependent on two major players – inflammation and where it stems from – usually our digestive tract aka gut. So with this potent drink you can nip just about anything in the bud, including Friday nights’ extra drink or two or just get a great energy boost. Best taken on an empty stomach – omit the chili if you’re sensitive to heat however if you’re especially fluey, you’ll want to keep the heat if not increase it.
- coconut water from 1/2 a young coconut (or water will suffice)
- 1 pinky finger size nub of turmeric
- 1 pinky finger size nub of ginger
- 1 Nioi Hawaiian chili pepper – or chili you have on hand. Can substitute cayenne
- pinch of hawaiian sea salt
Blend on high in Vitamix or other high speed blender for 45 seconds. Strain through a fine sieve. If you’re unwell, drink the whole thing through out the day. If you just need the boost, a dab will do ya (a shot glass full). You’ll FEEL it.
Turmeric has excellent antibacterial, anti fungal, anti-inflammatory properties along with ginger being a great tonic for digestion and nausea. Coconut water is exceptionally hydrating and the chili is the kick- and- burn that facilitates the heat in the body to cool itself down. Enjoy.
