I’m often slow to get on trendy food trains unless they come with a plethora of scientific evidence and prove to increase health and provide optimum nutrition – however, I’ve been blending kale in smoothies for as long as I can remember and I think need no explanation. They’re easy, filling and provide balance.
So here’s to the Green Machine. It’s the power me up without weighing me down. I call this one the “Green Maca Whey”. Change it up how you like or according to the seasons – use different fruits, different greens, add ginger etc. The template will remain the same.
Add to your blender:
- 3-4 sprigs of greens – I like a combination of collard & kale
- 1-2 apple bananas
- 1 small papaya
- 1/4 lemon with rind (the antioxidants are in the skin folks – and you can barely taste it when it’s all mixed up)
- 1/2 cup of grass fed whey protein concentrate – keeps you fuller, longer and has some great health benefits (see here, http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/263371.php)
- 1 Tsp Maca Powder
- 1 Tsp of green powder or Spirulina
- 1/4 tsp powdered stevia
- 1 Tbsp coconut oil or coconut butter (*optional)
Cover about 1/2 way up your blender and whiz away. Add more water if you like. Drink often.
