Flowery Fruit Bowl – with Honey Lime Dressing

Pretty Huh?

Pretty food really does taste better – and sometimes when we’re trying to eat better, fresher or more simply – presentation does a lot more to the senses then just taste good.

Here I took a combination of fruits I had on hand, both local and not – which was nice because the colors contrasted one another well. The specs of blue from the blueberries and the crispy crunch of apples were perfect, especially since our apple bananas were a big highlight. This is best made just before eating, so definitely don’t make ahead.

Here’s what I did – and what you can do that’s similar. I made it for a large farewell party so adjust the pieces of fruit accordingly – although this is a fail proof simple pot luck item you should definitely consider if you’re low on creativity and time.

  • 3 organic gala apples – chopped into medium size chunks
  • 1 cup organic blueberries
  • 2-2.5 hands of apple bananas (that’s the equivalent of ~ 15 little bananas, a lot!) – halved then sliced thin
  • 1 starfruit – halved then chopped into chunks
  • 1 papaya – medium sized dice

Add all the fruit to the bowl in that order. You don’t want the bananas at the bottom because they’re soft and could get too mushy when you’re mixing. Just a tip…

*As for the Honey-Lime dressing, this adds incredible pizzazz. Not to be missed and works for any combination of fruits. The lime also helps to preserve the color of your fruit which will brown if left too long.

  • zest of 1 lime
  • juice of 2 limes
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 15 mint leaves – chopped

mix everything together in a jar with a lid and shake well. Pour this over your fruit salad being gentle while you mix. Then once the dressing is poured and the fruit has been mixed, transfer the salad to the bowl you plan to serve it in, makes it even nicer without streaks of juice and mixing from your prep work. Sprinkle nasturtiums and any other edible flowers you have on hand. Enjoy!
