Mala‘ai Kula: Farm-to-School Pilot

The Māla‘ai Kula Kaua`I Farm-to-School pilot was launched in 2017 to build the capacity of two Hawaiian-focused Public Charter Schools in delivering a consistent, nutritious, and culturally-relevant school food program, complemented by education in food, nutrition, and agriculture.

Participating pilot schools are Ke Kula Ni‘ihau O Kekaha Public Charter School and Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School, who together serve approximately 200 students – the majority of which are Kanaka Maoli, or native Hawaiian.

Our goals include increasing the food access and health of students, teaching keiki where their food comes from, supporting our local economy of farmers and food producers, and building a model farm-to-school project for Kaua‘i.
