About Us:
Founded in 2006, Mālama Kaua’i is a community-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing local food production and access for Kaua‘i. We do this through a lens of resilience and sustainability, which leverages workforce and economic development efforts, partnerships and innovative programs to grow community capacity.
Our food hub programs support commercial, institutional, and consumer buyers all over Kaua‘i in purchasing local food through kauailocalfood.com. We currently purchase from over 130 farmers, ranchers, and food producers across the island to support the growth and sustainability of our islandʻs local food system.
The Job:
This part-time position, based out of our Moloa‘a and/or Lihue food hub, provides in-field support and driving for various food distribution programs on Wednesdays and Thursdays, with the opportunity to pickup additional shifts on others days as needed/desired if you’d like to be at 20/hrs/wk for benefits. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Intaking produce from farmers and food producers, providing feedback as needed, and accepting invoices
- Weighing and packing products accurately and swiftly
- Processing paperwork correctly to maintain compliance of various Federal programs
- Operating a refrigerated van safely, maintaining its cleanliness, and reporting any maintenance needs to management
We’re looking for a hammah with the following:
- Ability to show up on time and complete work in an efficient and accurate manner
- Basic familiarity with local produce types and comfort to learn grading and rejection process
- Ability to follow instructions carefully and ask for help when issues arise
- A clean driving record and ability to safely operate a refrigerated van (no special license required)
- Ability to repeatedly lift boxes of food up to 50lbs throughout the day
- Highly collaborative and comfortable working with the team and engaging positively with customers
- An energetic and results-oriented work style
- A flexible and positive attitude committed to improving our food system
Pay & Benefits:
Pay is $20-$22/hr, dependent upon skills and experience. Part time staff also receive discounts on local food and commercial kitchen access, and if you prefer a 20/hr/wk schedule, we also have a fully paid for benefits plan that includes health, dental vision, and massage/chiropractic.
