Now introducing Garden to Grindz online! This recipe guidebook was developed as a part of Mālama Kauaʻi’s 2021 – 2022 Farm to ECE Project, supported by funding and resources from the USDA Farm to School Grant Program, State of Hawaiʻi Department of Health, Johnson ʻOhana Foundation, Nemours Children’s Health, CTAHR Internship Program at UH-Mānoa, and Hawaiʻi Child Care Nutrition Program.
All of the recipes and guidance in our Garden to Grindz Guidebook are focused on ages 3 to 5 for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). All DHS licensed preschools and family day care home providers in Hawaiʻi are required by Hawaiʻi Administrative Rule to follow the CACFP meal pattern and portion sizes. This program also issues reimbursements to participating schools for meals served that follow CACFP guidelines and requirements. Recipes can easily be adjusted to meet other programs’ requirements.
This guide is meant to be used only as a tool and as USDA rules and regulations are subject to change it is always suggested that you follow any and all USDA guidance. Review the USDA Meal Standards page here.
