Food Hub Manager

About Us:

Founded in 2006, Mālama Kaua’i is a community-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing local food production and access for Kaua‘i. We do this through a lens of resilience and sustainability, which leverages workforce and economic development efforts, partnerships and innovative programs to grow community capacity. 

Our food hub programs support commercial, institutional, and consumer buyers all over Kaua‘i in purchasing local food through kauailocalfood.com. We also focus on increasing healthy food access through SNAP/EBT, DA BUX, WIC, and free food distributions to those in need. MK currently purchases from over 100 farmers, ranchers, and food producers across the island to support the growth and sustainability of our island’s local food system.

The Job:

This full-time senior position, located at our temporary food hub in Lihue, includes overseeing food hub operations, managing vendor relationships and inventory, leading our field team, and supporting key back office tasks of running the food hub. Reports to the Executive Director and oversees packers/drivers and intern(s). Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ordering, loading and managing weekly inventory into eCommerce platform
  • Overseeing intake of products, providing quality control, and giving feedback to farmers and food producers
  • Coordinating day-to-day logistics and managing staffing of islandwide pickups and deliveries of product for various programs alongside eCommerce Coordinator
  • Providing support and mentorship to in-field team, volunteers and interns, administration and customers as needed
  • Develop new, and cultivate existing, local food vendor relationships to support food producers beyond sales
  • Oversee and monitor the maintenance of facilities and vehicles, and compliance with food safety and storage standards
  • Track KPIs and analyze program data to guide food hub programs to success for revenue and impact dually, with a keen business sense to build efficiency

We are seeking a high performer with the following:

  • Experience using complex software, such as CRMs, websites or e-commerce platforms
  • Strong Google Drive/Docs/Sheets/Forms skills
  • Knowledgeable about local food and previous experience in logistics, food distribution, grocery, or similar field
  • Highly collaborative and comfortable working with our team, customers, and vendors
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously while remaining attentive to details
  • A passionate and results-oriented work style, with an internal desire for ongoing improvement
  • A flexible and positive attitude committed to improving our food system

Pay & Benefits:

Pay is $22-30/hr, dependent upon skill level and experience. Full-time staff also receive a benefits package that includes discounts on local food, 10 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid time off in the first year, 401k w/matching, and a no-cost employee medical insurance plan that includes health, dental, vision and massage/chiropractic. Performance bonuses may also be available.
