Introduction to DA BUX Double Up Food Bucks
The DA BUX program partners with food retailers to make Hawai‘i grown fruits and vegetables more affordable for SNAP-EBT cardholders. Partner retailers offer incentive discounts on their locally grown produce, and the DA BUX program reimburses the retailers for the value of the savings passed on to SNAP customers. The DA BUX program is seeking DA BUX Ambassadors who will assist partner retailers with DA BUX implementation, as well as with the retailers’ general operations as necessary.

Job Title:  DA BUX Ambassador 

Compensation:  $500 stipend paid in two $250-installments each month 

Education:  This internship is suited for a student enrolled in high school or higher education pursuing a career in the fields of Agriculture, Business, Human Services, Public Health, or Public Administration. Recent graduates and professionals exploring career changes are also welcome to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Commit 30 service hours per calendar month by assisting Mālama Kaua‘i with DA BUX implementation. Tasks include:
    • processing, tracking and reporting SNAP-EBT payments and DA BUX discounts;
    • completing small marketing and outreach projects for the program; and
    • helping to run a smooth food distribution day on Thursdays.
  • Complete training including Food Handlers Card and DA BUX training modules to become knowledgeable of DA BUX program policies regarding eligible and ineligible payment transactions to properly assist hosting site clients and customers,
  • Communicate regularly with DA BUX headquarters regarding hours/timecards,
  • Abide by all safety and hygiene regulations,
  • Follow guidance and directions as instructed by your direct supervisor.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to interface with a wide range of cultures and stakeholders, including program staff, participants and donors. Practice cultural sensitivity at all times.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with online information sharing platforms such as Zoom, Google Drive/Spreadsheets/Docs, and Dropbox.
  • Intuition to ask for help from co-workers or supervisor when unable to complete a task.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Attention to details, including by double-checking work for errors to produce accurate results.
