Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) – 55+

We are happy to be partnering with the Kaua`i Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), which provides volunteer opportunities for persons 55 and older to remain as active, contributing members of the community through volunteer involvement. On Kauai, the RSVP program started in 1973 under the sponsorship of the County of Kauai Agency on Elderly Affairs.

RSVP Volunteers receive:
– orientation by staff prior to placement, in-service instruction and supervision from the station supervisor
– accident and personal liability insurance (no cost to volunteer)
– supplemental auto liability insurance (if the volunteer uses his/her car) and possible mileage reimbursement

An annual recognition ceremony is held for all enrolled volunteers who have provided a minimum of 48 hours of volunteer work during the year. As most volunteers will say, the best thing they “get” from being a volunteer is the satisfaction and pride of helping others.

RSVP Volunteer opportunities with Malama Kaua`i include:

Community Farm & School Garden Help: Looking for something outdoors and hands-on? Come help in our Community Farm & Gardens, School Garden Nursery, Youth Garden, or School-based Gardens. Activities range from watering, weeding, and planting to providing consulting, mentoring, and educational services.

Outreach Booth Support: Love talking story? Help to staff outreach booths at various community events! Interact with the public, share information on programs and services, sign people up for our newsletter, plant seeds with keiki, and more.

Talk Story Speakers: Open to sharing your knowledge? We’re always looking for those with cultural and agricultural expertise to share with schools and the general community.

Donations & Funding Development: Assist in dropping off donation request letters, picking up donations for programs, and providing receipts to donors. Help to attract new donors through outreach efforts.

Event Support: Help planning and staffing special events including our annual Earth Day festival and National Farm-to-School month.
