About Us:

Founded in 2006, Mālama Kauaʻi is a community-based, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing local food production and access for Kaua‘i. We do this through a lens of resilience and sustainability, which leverages workforce and economic development efforts, partnerships and innovative programs to grow community capacity. We’ve run the Kaua‘i School Garden Network since 2010, and are looking to grow our support for school gardens and farm to school procurement utilizing our food hub.

The Job:

Wear lots of hats in this dynamic and diverse full-time role supporting school orchards, farm to school food projects, and our summertime Kaukau 4 Keiki meal box program! This is a full-time option for combining two of our part-time jobs into one: the Kalo Specialist and Community Food Projects Coordinator. Duties will be varied depending upon project needs but include:

  • Working with food producers, schools, and our food hub team to coordinate and support farm to school procurement
  • Processing and preparing various food products to increase sales for farmers and provide appropriate products for schools
  • Supporting schools in planning, funding, and executing school orchard projects 
  • Leading our 8-week summer meal box program for in-need keiki

We’re looking for someone with:

  • A true love for food and cooking, helping farmers, growing food, and creating a more secure food system for Kaua’i
  • Some food/meal preparation, gardening, and administrative experience highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of Google Drive/Docs/Sheets and strong computer skills
  • Strong ability to (and excited to) manage multiple projects, deadlines, and details
  • Cultural competency to build strong relationships in the community, demonstrated by years living in Hawai’i (will not consider relocations)

Pay & Benefits:

Pay is $25/hr, and benefits include discounts on local food, 10 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid time off in the first year, 401k w/matching, and a no-cost medical insurance plan that includes health, dental, vision and massage/chiropractic.
