Send the Malama Kaua`i Girls to Quebec in August!

Andrea Brower and Katie Paul of Malama Kaua`i were invited to participate in the Fourth Annual World Youth Congress in Quebec as community activist representatives. The World Youth Congress brings together hundreds of young activists from 120 countries to network, build coalitions, teach and learn from one another, develop community action projects, and help to shape international policy by documenting the work of young people across the globe. We will spend 10 days in workshops, learning and sharing with inspirational young activists, participating in local community action projects, and presenting our own work in the field of sustainability on Kaua`i.

The first World Youth Congress was held on Oahu in 1999, so Hawai`i holds a special place in the program.  Since then there have been congresses in Morocco and Scotland.  The underlying principles of this year's congress are community empowerment, contribution to achieving the UN's Millennium Development Goals, partnership and cooperation between organizations and movements, and emphasizing sustainable development models that have been successful. To learn more about the World Youth Congress, visit the website at http://www.wyc2008.qc.ca/ .

Andrea and Katie's congress expenses have been sponsored, but they need to raise money for airfare. If you would like to contribute to sending these young activists to the congress as representatives of our community, please contact Malama Kaua`i at 828-0685.
